The Cook County Sales Tax is set to increase to 10.25% in November of this year and there is nothing you can do about it. Actually that is not true. I’m going to give you a phone number to call and vote against this increase. I just did it 5 minutes ago and it took me less time to call then typing this sentence (I’m a slow typer.)
“He’ll keep calling me, he’ll keep calling me until I come over. He’ll make me feel guilty. This is uh… This is ridiculous, ok I’ll go, I’ll go, I’ll go, I’ll go, I’ll go.”–Cameron Frye (Ferris Bueller’s Day Off)
I don’t know why I thought of this quote when I called and voted against the sales tax increase here in Chicago. Here is an easy way (takes 15 seconds!!!) to vote against the sales tax increase that is scheduled to take effect in November 2008. The sales tax will be increased to 10.25% and it is my understanding that this would be the highest in the country. Here is what you need to do to vote against:
CALL: 312-603-6400. Press 1, then Press 2, then Press 2 again. That will record a vote against the increase at Cook County Board President Todd Stroger’s office.
About a month ago we were fighting an increase in the City of Chicago transfer tax on real estate….a few months before that we were all discussing taxes on water bottles and other such increases. I also heard that a parking tax increase was on the table. Enough is enough. These people who are representing us need to get their act together…..stop useless/wasteful spending…..and start spending the money we already pay more wisely.
